<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Fatty is the founder of Fattys Tattoos and Piercings, a self-taught artist who has been tattooing since 1992. He opened his first shop in Maryland in 1994 and has since grown the business to three locations across Washington DC and Maryland. Fatty is one of the most decorated tattoo artists in the region, earning numerous convention awards for best backpiece, best sleeve, best black and gray and best overall. He specializes in large scale biomechanical, Japanese, mythological and fantasy themes, as well as animal realism. A nationally recognized figure in the body art industry, Fatty has been featured on NPR, Fox News, The Washington Post and other major outlets, and has played a leading role in passing comprehensive body art legislation and regulation in both Maryland and Washington DC. <p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="margin-top:0px;font-size:clamp(14px, 0.875rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.227), 16px);line-height:1.4">Fattys first opened as a humble one man operation in 1994 in Frederick MD. Fatty, a self-taught artist who began tattooing in 1992, quickly grew restless in the small town and chose to relocate to Silver Spring MD in 1995. There the Fattys brand began to expand, adding many talented artists to our roster and offering piercing services. In 1996 Fatty began his body art legislation work, advocating for common-sense body art regulation in Maryland and speaking on behalf of the Maryland body art community in front of the Maryland legislature.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="font-size:clamp(14px, 0.875rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.227), 16px);line-height:1.4">In 1998, Fattys relocated to its current home in the heart of our nation’s capital in Dupont Circle Washington DC. Starting in 2002 Fatty began winning numerous awards at tattoo conventions across the country — including best backpiece, best sleeve, best black and gray, best color and best overall — setting himself apart as one of the most decorated tattoo artists in the region. In response to DC government overreach, Fatty formed the DC Coalition of Professional Body Art Practitioners in 2013, continuing his advocacy work for comprehensive body art regulations in Washington DC.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="font-size:clamp(14px, 0.875rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.227), 16px);line-height:1.4">In 2014 Fattys celebrated its 20 year anniversary by opening its second location on H Street NE in Washington DC. The following year in 2015 Fattys expanded yet again, opening our third location in Silver Spring Maryland. Today, with over 30 years in business, Fattys Tattoos and Piercings is home to a talented roster of tattoo artists and professional body piercers across three locations in Washington DC and Maryland.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Over the years Fattys has been voted Best of DC in the Washington City Paper Readers Poll fourteen times and Fatty has been featured in major national and international media including Good Morning America, NPR, CNN, The Washington Post, Fox News and Time magazine. Also proficient in oil and acrylic painting, Fatty continues to push his creative boundaries while building a team of artists who share his commitment to quality work and professionalism.</p>

<p>We use Mangomint as our appointment booking and client management platform. When you book an appointment, submit a tattoo request form, or communicate with us through Mangomint, the platform collects and stores your name, contact information, appointment history, service preferences, form submissions (including uploaded reference images), and message history. Clients, including minors and their parents or guardians, may also upload government-issued photo identification and birth certificates directly through Mangomint as part of our age and identity verification process. <h4>Identity Documents and Sensitive Records</h4>
<p>As part of our age and identity verification process, all clients are required to upload a copy of their valid, non-expired government-issued photo ID through our booking system (Mangomint) before their appointment. For minor piercing services, the parent or legal guardian must also upload their own government-issued photo ID and the minor’s birth certificate to verify the parent-child relationship. These documents are stored securely within Mangomint’s platform and are used solely for the purpose of verifying age, identity, and parental consent. We do not share uploaded identity documents with third parties except as required by law. Uploaded identity documents are retained in accordance with our data retention policy (see Section 6) and may be deleted upon request, subject to legal retention requirements. We also collect identity documents from independent contractors and staff as part of our onboarding, training attestation, and regulatory compliance processes. You may also opt in to receive promotional text messages about specials, events, and new services. You can opt out of promotional messages at any time by replying STOP. Standard message and data rates may apply. We will never send more than 4 promotional messages per month.</p>

<p>Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings provides professional tattoo, body piercing, and body jewelry services at three locations in Washington DC and Silver Spring, Maryland. These Terms govern your use of our website, online booking system, and in-person services. Sacred Mask LLC does not own, operate, or perform services at any shop location. All in-person services are provided by independently owned and operated entities licensed to use the Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings brand. By booking an appointment or receiving services at any location, you are entering into a service relationship with the operator of that specific location, not with Sacred Mask LLC.</p>
<p>We are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and dignified experience for all clients. All clients have the right to privacy and dignity during body art procedures, particularly for work on sensitive body areas. Clients may request a plastic covering and/or the use of a private room when procedures require partial undressing. Your artist will communicate each step of the procedure and ask for your permission before making physical contact.</p>
<p>Service animals are permitted in the public areas of our shop locations in accordance with applicable law. The client must maintain control of the service animal at all times via voice, signal, or other effective controls. No other animals are permitted on the premises.</p>
<h3>2. Age and Identification Requirements</h3>
<p>All tattoo clients must be at least 18 years of age and provide a valid, non-expired government-issued photo ID. Clients are required to upload their ID through our booking system (Mangomint) prior to their appointment, and may be asked to present the physical ID at the time of service for verification. No exceptions are made to this policy.</p>
<p>Piercing services for minors (under 18) are available with the following requirements: the minor&#8217;s parent or legal guardian must be physically present at the time of service, the parent or guardian must upload their own valid government-issued photo ID through our booking system (Mangomint), and the minor&#8217;s birth certificate must be uploaded through the booking system to verify the parent-child relationship. Specific piercing services available to minors vary by location and age. Please visit our Age &amp; ID Requirements page for full details.</p>
<p>We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who cannot provide adequate identification or who we reasonably believe does not meet age requirements.</p>
<h3>3. Appointments and Booking</h3>
<p>Appointments can be booked through our online booking system (powered by Mangomint), by phone, or in person. Walk-in availability varies by location and artist schedule.</p>
<p>By booking an appointment, you agree to arrive on time. If you are more than 15 minutes late without notice, your appointment may be cancelled and your deposit forfeited. You agree to provide accurate health information when asked, including disclosing any allergies, skin conditions, medications, pregnancy, or other medical conditions that may affect the safety of the procedure. You also agree to follow all pre-appointment instructions provided by your artist.</p>
<p><strong>Release Form:</strong> All clients must sign a release and consent form before the commencement of any body art service. No service will be performed without a signed release form on file. For minor piercing clients, the parent or legal guardian must sign the release form on the minor&#8217;s behalf.</p>
<p><strong>Refusal of Service:</strong> We reserve the right to refuse or discontinue service at any time if we determine it cannot be performed safely, if a client is disrespectful, disruptive, intoxicated, abusive, or threatening, if a client violates our shop rules or applicable laws, or for any other reason at our discretion. We will never refuse service based on a client&#8217;s race, skin color, religion, gender, sexual or gender orientation, nationality, or physical condition not within the client&#8217;s control.</p>
<h3>4. Deposits, Pricing, and Payment</h3>
<p><strong>Tattoo Deposits:</strong> A deposit is required to secure your tattoo appointment. Deposits are non-refundable. If you cancel or fail to show for your appointment, your deposit is forfeited. Deposits are applied toward the total cost of your tattoo service. If you need to reschedule, please provide at least 48 hours&#8217; notice. Rescheduling is subject to availability.</p>
<p><strong>Piercing Services:</strong> Piercing prices include the procedure and standard starter jewelry. Upgraded jewelry is available at additional cost. Payment is due at the time of service.</p>
<p><strong>Pricing:</strong> Each tattoo artist at Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings is an independent contractor who sets their own pricing. Tattoo pricing is determined by the artist based on factors including design complexity, size, placement, and time required. All pricing is at the artist&#8217;s discretion and is communicated before the appointment.</p>
<p><strong>Payment:</strong> We accept major credit cards, debit cards, and cash. All services and merchandise must be paid for before they are provided. Payment is due in full at the time of service (less any deposit already applied). Tips are appreciated but not required.</p>
<h3>5. Body Jewelry Sales</h3>
<p>All body jewelry sales are final. We cannot accept returns or exchanges on body jewelry for health and safety reasons. All jewelry sold at Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings is implant-grade and comes with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturer defects. This guarantee covers replacement of the jewelry item only and does not cover loss, damage, or normal wear.</p>
<h3>6. Health, Safety, and Assumption of Risk</h3>
<p>Tattooing and body piercing are invasive procedures that carry inherent risks, including but not limited to: pain, swelling, bruising, bleeding, allergic reactions, scarring, infection, nerve damage, keloid formation, and migration or rejection of jewelry.</p>
<p>By receiving services from Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings, you acknowledge that you have been informed of these risks, that you voluntarily consent to the procedure, that you have disclosed any medical conditions, allergies, medications, or other health information that may affect the procedure or healing, that you are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and that you understand that results may vary and that the final appearance of tattoos and piercings may differ from reference images or expectations.</p>
<p><strong>Pre-Existing Health Conditions:</strong> Certain pre-existing health conditions may affect your eligibility for body art services or require additional precautions. These include, but are not limited to: epilepsy, hemophilia or other bleeding disorders, heart conditions, use of blood-thinning medications, pregnancy or nursing, and diabetes. If you have any of these conditions, you may be required to provide written, signed approval from your physician confirming that it is safe for you to receive body art services before your appointment can proceed. We reserve the right to decline service if we believe a client&#8217;s health or safety could be compromised by the procedure.</p>
<p>You are solely responsible for following aftercare instructions provided by your artist. Failure to follow aftercare instructions may result in complications for which we are not liable.</p>
<h3>7. Aftercare Responsibility</h3>
<p>Proper aftercare is essential for healing and the long-term appearance of your tattoo or piercing. Written aftercare instructions are provided at the time of service and are available on our website. You agree to follow these instructions and to contact us or seek medical attention if you experience signs of infection or adverse reaction. We are not responsible for complications resulting from failure to follow aftercare instructions, exposure to unsanitary conditions after the procedure, interference with the healing process (including premature removal or changing of jewelry), use of aftercare products not recommended by your artist, or pre-existing medical conditions that affect healing.</p>
<h3>8. Photography and Portfolio</h3>
<p>We may request to photograph completed tattoo and piercing work for our portfolio, website, and social media. Your consent is voluntary. By consenting, you grant Sacred Mask LLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use the photographs for promotional and portfolio purposes. You may revoke consent and request image removal at any time by contacting us.</p>
<h3>9. Gift Cards</h3>
<p>Gift cards purchased from Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings do not expire and have no service fees. Gift cards are redeemable for services and products at any of our three locations. Gift cards cannot be redeemed for cash (except where required by law). Lost or stolen gift cards will not be replaced unless proof of purchase is provided.</p>
<h3>10. Independent Contractors</h3>
<p>Tattoo artists at Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings operate as independent contractors. Each artist maintains their own portfolio, sets their own pricing, and manages their own schedule. While all artists work within the standards and policies of the Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings brand, they are not employees of Sacred Mask LLC or of the entity that operates the location where they work.</p>
<h3>11. Intellectual Property</h3>
<p>All content on this website — including text, images, graphics, logos, and design elements — is the property of Sacred Mask LLC or its content creators and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Custom tattoo designs created by our artists are the intellectual property of the respective artist. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use our website content or tattoo designs without written permission.</p>
<h3>12. Website Use</h3>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">WHAT AFFECTS THE PRICE OF YOUR TATTOO</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Several factors go into how your tattoo is priced. Tattoos with more detail, shading or color work take more time and are priced accordingly. Placement also matters — some areas like the ribs, hands, feet and neck may cost more. Many tattoo prices can be quoted via text but more complex pieces and projects will require an in-person consultation. All tattoo appointments require a non-refundable deposit that is fully applied to your final tattoo price. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">At Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings, we want your tattoo to heal perfectly.</p>



<p style="font-size: 28px; line-height: 1.3; font-weight: 300;">Most aspects of tattoo aftercare are universal but some are individual. Due to the fact that all people have different skin and genetics, variations will apply when it comes to ointments, moisturizers, skin PH levels, skin health and tattoo healing times. Typically a tattoo will heal within two weeks. Pay attention to your tattoo while it is healing to ensure that the aftercare you are following is working for you. Read these instructions fully before beginning your tattoo aftercare.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal">Bandage Removal</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="line-height:1.3">After your tattoo is completed your artist will apply ointment on the tattooed area and protect your tattoo with a plastic bandage or covering. Remove your bandage when you get home or are in a controlled clean environment. Try not to leave the bandage on for more than 3 hours so it can be exposed to fresh air. After the bandage is removed, all remaining ointment and bodily fluid should be gently wiped off the tattoo either by using a clean, wet paper towel or in the shower using minimal soap. Always allow your tattoo to fully dry before reapplying ointment. Sealing drops of water in your healing tattoo under ointment will damage the tattoo.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal">Cleaning</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="line-height:1.3">Always wash your hands right before you touch, clean or moisturize your healing tattoo. You may wash your tattoo with mild soap up to twice a day. Washing your healing tattoo with abrasive soap or more than twice a day will result in excessive drying to the skin and prolong the healing time.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal">Moisturizing</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="line-height:1.3">For the first 1-2 days, lightly moisturize your tattoo 1-2 times daily with A+D ointment. Moisturizing your tattoo more frequently than this is unnecessary and may hinder the healing process. Once the tattoo is no longer an open wound and the skin has begun to seal (usually after 48 hours), discontinue using the A+D ointment and begin moisturizing the tattooed area as needed with a mild skin moisturizer. Avoid using moisturizers that are scented or contain excess chemicals. Avoid the use of oils, sun block and beauty products on a healing tattoo. Continue moisturizing twice daily until your skin’s natural pH balance is achieved.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal">Complications</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="line-height:1.3">We recommend testing the ointment and moisturizer on non-tattooed skin before applying it to your healing tattoo to ensure that you have no negative reactions to the product. If you have any kind of bad reaction to either your ointment or lotion (rash, bumps, soreness, redness, etc), discontinue using all moisturizing products. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="line-height:1.3">If the skin on and around your tattoo continues to be sore, red, or hot after discontinuing the ointment and moisturizer then your tattoo may be infected especially if white pus is present. This is extremely rare and always due to exposure to an unclean environment after the initial bandage is removed. In this case contact Fattys and your healthcare provider.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal">Healing Process</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="line-height:1.3">Your tattoo will sometimes flake, peel, and/or scab in a few days. This is a normal part of the healing process. Often a tattoo will itch during this time. Do not scratch your tattoo or pick at the dead skin. Allow the dead skin to fall off naturally. Wear loose, breathable clothing that does not rub against your healing tattoo. Do not engage in any activity that would cause any rubbing or friction of the tattooed area. Do not allow anything unclean to come in contact with your healing tattoo including public places, animals, unclean clothing, unclean surfaces, bodies of water (swimming pools, ocean, rivers, etc.). </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="line-height:1.3">For the first night only, Fattys recommends that you cover your tattoo with a plastic, breathable bandage right before going to bed. Lightly moisturize your tattoo with A+D ointment before wrapping it. Secure your plastic covering with tape. This will prevent your fresh tattoo from sticking to clothing and bedding. Take the covering off when waking and again follow the bandage removal instructions.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal">Long Term Care</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph" style="line-height:1.3">After your tattoo is fully healed, Fattys recommends using sun block (SPF 40 or higher) when exposing the tattoo to the sun. The sun will fade your tattoo over time. Keep your tattooed skin moisturized and hydrated. Any care that is good for your skin will be good for the long term care of your tattoo.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Proper aftercare is essential to a healthy piercing. At Fattys Tattoos &amp; Piercings, we follow Association of Professional Piercers guidelines for aftercare and recommend the following instructions for all new piercings.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong>Basic Piercing Aftercare</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Always wash your hands right before touching or cleaning your piercing.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Clean your new piercing twice daily and continue to do so for the entire healing period unless told otherwise by your piercer.&nbsp; The purpose of cleaning your piercing is to remove any discharge that occurs at the piercing site in addition to any dirt or bacteria that has accumulated.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Clean your piercing by using sterile saline spray (sold at Fattys).</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Do not use alcohol, peroxide, ointments or any other type of cleaning agent in or around your piercing.&nbsp; Also do not use Q-tips or cotton balls.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong>Oral Piercing Aftercare</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For the first few days after you receive your oral piercing put ice in your mouth periodically to reduce swelling.&nbsp; You can also use anti inflammatories that do not thin your blood.&nbsp; Right after you eat, smoke or drink anything besides water while your oral piercing is healing rinse your mouth for 1 minute with saline solution.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your oral piercing will be done initially with a piece of jewelry that is longer and can account for the predictable swelling that will occur while healing.&nbsp; Make a follow up appointment with your piercer as soon as your oral piercing has healed so they can change your jewelry out to a shorter piece to avoid damage to your teeth and gums.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Spicy and highly acidic foods and beverages should be avoided while your oral piercing is healing.&nbsp; Avoid all activities that could introduce unclean or pathogenic substances to your oral piercing while healing.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For all lip and cheek piercings clean the outside of your piercing as well as outlined above for basic piercing care.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong>Genital Piercing Aftercare</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Clean the outside of your piercing as outlined above for basic piercing care.&nbsp; Do not clean a healing genital piercing with soap.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Avoid all activities that could introduce unclean or pathogenic substances to your genital piercing while healing.&nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your genital piercing continues to bleed after the procedure, loosely but securely wrap the pierced area in gauze.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For piercings around the urethra irrigate the piercing with saline solution after urinating.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong>Surface Piercing/Anchors Aftercare</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Clean your piercing as outlined above for basic piercing care.&nbsp; These piercings require maintenance during their entire lifetime because matter can build up underneath the threaded top causing the piercing to become irritated. Saline and/or shower rinses may be helpful with removing matter from underneath the threaded top.&nbsp; Avoid putting makeup on these piercings even after healing.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even with proper care, surface anchors may be less permanent than other body piercings.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong>How Do I Take Care of My Piercing Over the Long-Term?</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Always wash your hands before touching your piercing and jewelry. &nbsp; Periodically clean your jewelry with warm water.&nbsp; You can scrub your jewelry gently with a SOFT toothbrush (made for babies) to aid in the cleaning.&nbsp; If your healed piercing becomes irritated you can view piercing troubleshooting in the sections below.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong>Piercing Issues and Solutions</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is normal for a new, healing piercing to secrete a white or pale yellow liquid during healing. This is not a sign of infection. If your discharge is light in color and not accompanied by pain, swelling, redness, or warmth it is most likely not a reason to be concerned.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However piercings can become infected and you could be allergic to certain types of metals or cleaning solutions.&nbsp; Piercings can also become irritated even after the piercing has healed so you need to pay attention during healing and throughout the life of your piercing.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong>Piercing Irritations</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Usually what many people think of as an infection is actually the result of irritation. If your piercing is red, swollen right around the hole, peeling, excreting white or yellow fluid, bleeding slightly, or seems to have a solid (not fluid-filled) bump around the jewelry, it is probably irritated. These are all signs that the piercing is not being cared for properly</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Irritation is typically caused by touching or playing with your piercing (particularly with unclean hands), excessive cleaning, wearing clothing that is too tight or rubbing against the piercing (navels and nipples), body position while sleeping, glasses or phone use (ear cartilage), chewing gum, grinding teeth, or playing with the jewelry (tongue piercings), having sex too soon (genitals), or any other behaviors or activities that chafe, pull, or put pressure on your piercing.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If your piercing is irritated, consider your behavior to try to figure out what’s causing the irritation. Once the cause of the irritation can be determined and eliminated, symptoms will often disappear. Warm salt water soaks work well to help soothe irritated piercings and helps to prevent a worsening of symptoms.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong><strong>Piercing Infections</strong></strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Infections come from exposure to bacteria and other contaminants and can typically be avoided with basic hygiene (and common sense). You will usually know if your piercing becomes infected if the surrounding tissue becomes red, painful, swollen and warm to the touch, or if you get discharge that is dark yellow, greenish, bloody, or has a bad odor. A small, fluid-filled bump (which looks like a pimple) will often accompany facial piercing infections.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you think you have an infection, <a href="/piercing-artists" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.fattystattoos.com/artists">contact your piercer directly</a>  for advice and do not remove your jewelry.&nbsp; Your piercer may want to meet you in person. Infections are easier to treat if the piercing remains open.&nbsp; Hot salt water soaks are the best way to keep minor infections from getting worse.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you have allowed your infection to persist and becomes serious or life threatening then you should see a doctor.&nbsp; Just keep in mind that your doctor may not be familiar with treating body piercings and not fully understand the best course of action for piercing irritations and treat them the same way which they would an infection.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong>Allergic Reactions</strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Usually simple piercing irritations are mistaken for allergic reactions.&nbsp; When using high quality, implant-grade piercing jewelry (as we do at Fattys) and appropriate cleaning solutions, allergic reactions are rare. However it is always possible for your body to have an allergic reaction to any foreign substance that it is exposed to, including metals and piercing cleaning solutions. Allergic reactions will often appear as rashes, excessive clear fluid discharge, redness, itchiness, or (with some metal allergies) the skin pulling away from the jewelry. These will usually show up immediately after being pierced or right after starting to use a new cleaning solution.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An allergic reaction to your cleaning solution will usually appear as a large, red patch around the piercing.&nbsp; In this case switch to a basic sea salt or saline solution.&nbsp;If you suspect a metal or cleaning solution allergy please <a href="/piercing-artists" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.fattystattoos.com/artists">contact your piercer directly</a> who may ask that you come into the shop for an expert opinion and possible jewelry removal.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong><strong>Jewelry Embedding, rejection and migration</strong></strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Occasionally jewelry embedding<strong> </strong>occurs when skin grows over the top of a healing piercing.&nbsp; This is usually caused by excessive swelling from an initial piercing.&nbsp; In this case <a href="/piercing-artists" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.fattystattoos.com/artists">contact your piercer directly</a> to set up an appointment so they can change your jewelry until the swelling subsides. It is important that you contact your piercer as soon as possible to avoid further complications.<br>On rare occasions your body will reject (push out) or migrate a piece of jewelry from its original placement. Before this takes place,&nbsp;the piercing will become sore and irritated and will not settle no matter how&nbsp;well you care for it.&nbsp; If you suspect your piecing is attempting to reject or migrate please <a href="/piercing-artists" data-type="page" data-id="207">contact your piercer directly</a> so they can assist you and try to save your piercing.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading h4 base-font text-normal"><strong><strong>Check and Tighten Your Jewelry Regularly</strong></strong></h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you have a piece of jewelry that is screwed together you will need to check and tighten it daily to avoid having it fall out.&nbsp; Threadless pieces should be also be checked daily and pushed together to ensure they are flush and secure.&nbsp; Wash your hands before tightening your jewelry.&nbsp; Consider using gloves to tighten oral piercing jewelry to get a better grip on the piece.&nbsp; Remember that maintaining your jewelry after you leave the shop is your responsibility so please be vigilant and pay attention to your jewelry.</p>

A parent or guardian must present one of the ID types (listed above) for themselves, the minor’s federal or state issued ID (listed below) AND the minor child&#8217;s original birth certificate (certified copies accepted). Failure to present proper ID for all parties may result in the loss of your service reservation fee. Minors must be able to verbally consent to the procedure and must show respect to their parents/guardians and the piercer while at Fattys. All minor piercings are done at the discretion of the piercer.</p>
